This is unfortunately remarkably similar to what happened with Ansett Airlines back in 2001 just before it's demise;
QANTAS employees are putting together a bid to buy a share in the struggling airline.
Workers worried about a $300 million half-year loss have *already held talks with private-equity investors in London and New York. Qantas pilot Ian Woods is spearheading the employee bailout and has also had preliminary talks in Canberra.
"I am trying to put together a package that will keep Qantas alive and still in Australian hands," he said.
The flying kangaroo has had a nightmare week with its investment rating being downgraded to junk status a day after it announced it was axing 1000 jobs.
"There has never been a better time to look at the employees taking a share in the company," Capt Wood said.

Senate calls for Qantas investment;
The Senate has passed a motion by Australian Greens spokesperson for Transport Senator Lee Rhiannon, noting the benefits of a majority Australian-owned Qantas and calling on the government to seriously consider investing in the airline.
