All FR24 software missing on RPi reboot

I've been feeding data to Flightradar24 for just over a week now and I've had some real odd behavior from the software. It's installed on an RPi 3 running Raspbian Stretch. I've been developing/supporting Unix for 30 years. The software installed easily and feed data for a few days. Then I needed my SDR for some testing. I halted the system, removed power and then the SDR. When I powered back up with the RTL-SDR, all traces of the FR24 software were gone. I reinstalled and was back running in minutes and fed data for another week. I needed the SDR on another system for a few hours so I halted the RPi, removed the dongle and when I fired it back up with the dongle again all traces, logs, everything FR24 related is missing. What a great feature! What am I missing here? I plan to have it online 24x7 unless I need the SDR for a few hours but I'm not going to reinstall each time. Any suggestions?

Where to fit an Antenna Filter and a Surge Protector / Static Grounding Block ?

I’m seeking best practice or your thoughts and suggestions on where to place the above items in the coax cable run.

Firstly, I’m aware that some Active Antennas require grounding and assume this is for some protection against static spikes / voltage surges etc. I’m also aware that most ‘professionally installed' radio antenna systems have a voltage surge /static discharge grounding near the point where the coax leaves the tower or mast and a ground wire continuing down to an earthing point.

So – would best practice be to have the 1090MHz filter at the antenna end ? or inline somewhere along the coax run ?? or immediately at the receiver input ??? And the same questions about where to position the surge/static protection.

Given cable loss factors and limiting the number of connector joins, would a solution be to connect the antenna filter directly to the antenna, then connect the surge/static grounding block to the antenna filter, with the ground wire to earth, leaving an unjoined coax run directly to the receiver? Or does it matter where they go as long as they are installed somewhere ?

Cheers

Peter

After several time (months, years) feeding data with my USB device (OS X Yosemite) I git this message:

Screen Shot 2018-01-08 at 8.14.03 AM.png

I'm using the 1.018.5 version, upgraded to the 1.018.8 and have the same warning message, I returned to the earlier version, but still no results.

Is there any way to fix this problem?
If I made a clean install it would help? (what files should I delete to make a clean install?)

I can't upload any feed because of this error.

Any help is welcome

Distance circle around own receiver location

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been covered before, I did a search but found nothing.

Would it be possible to add a feature such that users can click on their receiver location and select to add concentric distance circles at various radii on the Live Air Traffic Map, please.

This would allow users to better gauge the distance of aircraft from them.

ps if the facility already exists and I've not found it, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Help Troubleshooting sudden loss of range

Hi Folks,

I recently updated from my NooElec SDR with antenna to the FlightAware Pro+ with 1090 filter built in, and as well the FlightAware 66cm Antenna. I saw a more than 2x performance increase in number of positions and in range (almost 200NM on one side, and 100NM on the rest).

Then about a week or so after I upgraded the components, we had a snow storm come through and it caused some issues with power. My Raspberry Pi did lose power and later came back online with everything else. After that I noticed that my range has gone from 2x to 1/4. I get about 25NM with the same setup (eg the new SDR and Antenna). Swapping back to the original SDR and Antenna I get more or less the original range I previously had (around 100NM on one side and 45NM on the rest).

So it seems it's either the SDR, or the antenna/connector. Thinking this, I purchased the same FlightAware Pro+ SDR. Received it today and swapped it for the previous one, going with that because it would be the "active" component of the lot. However I seem to still be getting the limited range even with the 66cm Antenna and the new SDR as I did with the previous Flightaware SDR.

My question is how can I troubleshoot the connector and Antenna? Any other suggestions on what to look for? Do I need to order a new connector and Antenna to rule those out as issues as well?

FR24 shows Status as Offline

Hello everyone and sorry for my not perfect English, I'm new to the forum, but I'm a longtime FR24 user. Anyway, I have a DVB-T USB stick to power the data for FR24, it's connected to a 24 hour PC, my subscription is Business. Until a week ago FR24 was working beautifully now the status is in Offline ... what's going on with the FR24 server? Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks for your help.

Unable to see my feed

Hello everyone,
3 days ago I've installed the ADS-B kit at my home airport at Rosh-Pina.
I'm an ATC and my boss and I Installed the antenna on the top of the ATC Tower.
Although the status and the statistics shows everything is OK and Online we are unable to see any aircraft at the CTR.
We know for sure some aircraft did have a mode-s and where transmitting it because we could see them at another places.
Another strange thing is that while zooming in on the airport on the left side the "data source" shows "0" at the ADS-B.
For now FR24 don't know what the problem is and don't really think there is one because it's online and show data.
On the other hand wee don't see any aircraft.
I've added a picture to show what i'm talking about, the green "+" is the antenna.FR24 problem.jpg
If anyone has any idea I'll be more than happy to hear it:D

Mantaining the same sharing code and radar id on a new Raspberry hardware

$

Hello,
I apologize if the topic has already been dealt with, I searched the forum but I wasn't able to find an answer.
Yesterday I started sharing data with an experimental setup, a borrowed Raspberry and internal antenna, everything worked well an during the next week I'll install the external antenna and a new dedicated Raspberry.
Now the question is: as the new hardware will have a different MAC address is it enough to move the SD card from the old to the new device or I'll need a new install from scratch? In this case how is possible to maintain the same sharing code and radar id that has been assigned to me during the first installation?
Thank you for you advice!

Not sending data to FR24

Hello!

Internally the pi is working collecting data. The Feeder Status page says it is offline. Here is what the local page says:

FR24 Link: Connected via UDP
FR24 Radar Code: T-KFLV2
Aircraft Tracked (ModeS & ADS-B): 12
Aircraft Uploaded: 5
Receiver: dvbt, Connected
MLAT running: YES

What else do I need to post for troubleshooting. Its power supply is more than sufficient.

I just upgraded the fr24feed package on my RasPi from 1.0.18-9 to 1.0.19-2 and now dump1090 is missing in /usr/lib/fr24. Is this intentional?

Unable to install FR24Feeder on RPI 3 running Debian Stretch 2017-11-29

I've been running FR24Feeder on an RPi 3 for nearly years without any problems. Today, I find that the SD Card has failed (it's done good service), so I went about a fresh install. Debian Stretch 2017-11-29 was installed and Updated/Upgraded. Using the new PDF Install Guide (thats covers all OS's) I used the second Install Option where the latest Version of FR24 is downloaded - v 1.0.19-2 as shown on the FR24 Site. This failed with an Error 404 ".File not Found". So I tried option 1, which is the method I had used originally, which starts with "sudo bash -c "$(wget -O" etc, and this started OK, but then failed with errors regarding "dpmanager" (or similar). I've then read something that this command has been deprecated in Stretch, but it can be downloaded - which I then did. Using Install Option 1 again then gave dozens of other errors.

I'm no Linux/RPi expert, so all I'm looking for is a quick method to get my Feeder software up and running again. Surely others must be having these same problems?

Thanks for any support anyone could give.

DVBT Connection Terminated

Hi all,

Can't seem to get flightradar24 to connect successfully to the DVBT stick for it to send aircraft data to them. Looking at the log file there is a lot of this:

Aircraft are showing up on the dump1090 map without a problem. I've tried restarting the service, rebooting the Pi. Unplugging the DV BT USB stick etc etc.

Anyone got any ideas? It was all working fine until 7am this morning.

Raspberry Pi Receiver Offline - help please.

I have a home built Raspberry Pi receiver and this has been working well for some time.
Yesterday (16th Jan) the statistics page was showing the receiver as offline.
All appears OK (power supply etc - I have also tried a second PSU). I have rebooted the device several times.
If I plug a monitor into the Pi it shows all the usual status lines during boot (many marked "OK"). The last line being "raspberrypi login:"
I can ping the raspberry pi OK.
Has anyone any ideas what may be wrong or any diagnostics I can run?
Thanks,
Julian
