Windows Feed using SDRplay RSPUno/Duo and Dump1090

I need some clarification on the recent announcement about discontinuing Windows feeds to Flightradar24.

I currently use an RTL Dongle and FR24FEED and have done for a long time now.

I also run a load of other radio kit and *did* use a dedicated RADARBOX3D unit till they wanted to screw me for money and used their encrypted data streams to generate revenue for them at my expense. This made me switch to a simple RTL dongle.

Now I also have an SDRplay RSPduo and which supports ADS-B (DUMP1090) and can use Virtual Radar.

So I'm being deliberately dumb in asking is there a way to get SDRplay and DUMP1090 to send data to FlightRadar24 from a Windows box?

I would add I've seen comments about zdiag? / RTL dongle driver being an issue on Windows 10.

Seems to me that other hardware/OS combos (Pi, Linux ...) are not going to be affected by the recent decision which leaves me to believe data error issues claimed are related to the FR24FEED windows program or the RTL dongle driver?

So with my SDRplay ADS-B capability will I still be to feed data to FlightRadar24?

Interference on 1090 MHz

Hello

I contacted FR24 several times regarding interference on the 1090 MHz band where F-SBFI2 feed is located. I also host FlightAware receiver, which has lost range too. The range decreased from approx 200 nm down to 33-39 nm. Coverage is very poor.

I had checked using FlightAware ProStick + FlightAware BPF the 1090 MHz band using SDR# (the only tools I have now) and I found a disturbing lump close to 1088 MHz. If the RTL AGC is left on the noise floor skyrockets a very high and disturbing level. I have attached screenshots of SDR# below:

RTL AGC ON
RTL AGC ON - TUNER AGC ON.jpg

RTL AGC OFF
RTL AGC OFF - TUNER AGC ON.jpg

I am trying to reach FR24 support but get no reply from them. I managed to get range back using the FA ProStick + BPF as above running with RTL AGC OFF and TUNER AGC ON which gave range back, as below:

6916341b-70de-4158-8c0f-f069c7dafbf6.jpg

Is there any way gain could be turned down on a FR24 receiver ? Seems that too high a gain is pumping noise up too much.

There are no cell towers or anything new in the vicinity. This receiver has been installed on this site for almost two years with no issues.

Any insights will be much appreciated.

I was consider a linux install, then using Wine to run my other components. However seeing as how you raised the VM option I fired that up. Worked until I tried the "sudo dpkg -i fr24feed_1.0.18-5_i386.deb" when an error was generated that this was not a standard debian file and failed to install.

Weird observation - can't find the plane on flightradar

Hi,

I have observed something very strange yesterday, and I was *not* able to locate / identify the plane with the flightradar app on my phone, or on the website.

Date / Time: March 28, between 13:45 UTC and 14:10 UTC

My Location: 48°16'09.0"N, 7°43'27.7"E (Rust, Germany, about 30km directly south of Strasbourg)

Direction of view: north-east by east (approximately)

Here's what I saw:

A VERY large four engine jet, coming in from the north east, lower than cruising altitude but still quite high, turning a huge circle counterclockwise, and going off back towards north by northeast.

And like I said, I can't find anything on flightradar, and I couldn't back when i saw it.

Ideas/Guesses, anyone?

Cheers

Testing fix for older Debian feed status

Why you have to start it again by any other command?

To check status, use this command:
Code:

abcd@ubuntu-bionic:~$ sudo systemctl status fr24feed

[sudo] password for abcd:

● fr24feed.service - Flightradar24 Decoder & Feeder
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/fr24feed.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)

Mar 30 03:38:00 ubuntu-bionic systemd[1]: Started Flightradar24 Decoder & Feeder.

I'm unsure that is accurate across all versions.

I had a user reply to me, straight up tell me I was wrong. And that on his linux install the <space> --status | was the only valid one.

Just as Stealth found, while the later version Pi Build, includes fr24feed-service.
Similar needs to be investigated on .deb packages and older versions. As once upon a time 'fr24feed-status' didn't exist.

Switching from windows to RPi

Good morning,
Due to the pending demise of Windows feed, I have bought a Raspberry Pi.
I have installed it as per the instructions and all is working well, however, during installation it allocated me a new radar "callsign", (T-EGNXXX) and sharing key.
I would like to use my original "callsign" (T-EGNYYY) that I have been using for some years, whilst feeding in with windows. I have tinkered around with the settings on the settings page in FR24, however things grind to a halt, as I clearly don't know what Im doing!
I am brand new to RPi, and can manage to get into it through PuTTY, if that's of any help?
Can someone please tell me in a step by step guide for idiots, just how to reconfigure it to use my original callsign and sharing key please?
Ive looked around these forums but cant find anything close to what Im trying to do...........am I the only one who wishes to do this?

Thank you in anticipation.
Phil

Filter not working

Hi All,

Since about a week my filter "Airport" does not work any longer. Normaly I set the filter on AMS,LHR,CDG,FRA to see in- / outcoming flights from that airport only. Since last week I see only "AMS" flights on my screen with the filter "On".

What is going wrong here or do I something wrong?

Any help will be welcome. Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards, Hans

Hello, I noticed that Flightradar24 still shows the old logo of Travel Service on Smartwings flight, the company changed name from Travel Service to Smartwings in December 2018.
This applies for Smartwings TVS/QS, Smartwings Poland TVP/3Z, Smartwings Slovakia TVQ/6D and Smartwings Hungary TVL/7O.

Pi Zero Advice Please

$

Briefly - I fed with a 1st generation Pi, it had overheating problems, so I fed using Windows, and now I'm back feeding with the Pi.

But the Pi v1 USB ports can't cope with both a Wifi dongle and an 820T2 DVB-T stick and I know before long the thermal fuses will start breaking again. They do "mend" after a time (fridge helps) but each cycle reduces the working time and increases the mend time.

So I've been considering options such as drilling a hole in the case and fitting a fan (not sure it'd be enough cooling), buying a powered hub (means extra wires and power supply), and I'm now on to considering a Pi Zero W - with Wifi - which wouldn't cost much more than a hub anyway.

So my two questions are:

1) does a Pi Zero W with just DVB-T plugged in manage OK as far as providing the 500mA(?) without any overheating problems?

2) can an SD card all set up and running Raspbian/fr24feed just be transferred from a Pi v1 to a Zero without any issues? I ask that because it'd save having to buy mini HDMI to HDMI adaptors etc if any setup/changes could be done on the big old Pi and then any tweaking on the Zero done using VNC.

Trying to save a bit of my pension you might have guessed! Any help much appreciated.

Strange daily availability with RPi 3 / dump1090-mutability_1.15~dev

Hi

I installed a new FR24 feed with RPi 3 and dump1090-mutability_1.15~dev to replace my quite old feed from a Windows 7 sever.

As far as I see everything works perfectly.

But one thing I don't understand. If I have a look on the "daily availability" of my feed the screen seems to be strange - feed with regular points...
See my attached image.

Is there an explanation?

Thanks.

The airport OOL/YBCG has recently upgraded to ILS and has allocated new waypoints which do not show up on the maps.
Not knowing how fr24 gets its charts has me wondering.
Is it automatically updated from different countries online maps
Or is it contributed to by people like us.

Hello,
I changed my setup for the feed from windows to Pi.

everything is working fine except that every some time the dump1090-mutability (1.15) stops working and I have to do
"sudo service dump1090-mutability restart" to get it working again.

thanks in advance,

Hey, I'm trying to start feeding data through a Raspberry Pi 3 with a DVB-T dongle (RTL-SDR), through Ethernet. On my monitor, everything looks good. I'm able to access the Linux console, and there is an SSH link. The SSH shows a welcome page, with nothing relating to FR24... And, the Pi doesn't show up on the activate page... Please help

Raspberry Pi 3 B+ and USB Dongle R820T2 no flights recognized

Added USB Hub on RPi 3B and that made a difference !

Hi,

Just wanted to share this:

I have been running a RPi 3B with original Power Supply and a Flight Aware Pro Stick for some months with decent results. Dump1090 mutability 1.15 and standard FR24 image
In the last week most performance figures has been declining some 20% so I started diagnosing...

I connected a good quality USB Hub with 4 Amp power supply and my numbers were immediatly better. Why, is another question......

Look at the graphs, I changed at around 8:15 this morning....
