If you're feeding FR24 DONT touch this button!

Guys,

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this little gem or not or if there is anything on the forum or elsewhere (it's certainly not on the Individual Stats page itself) which makes one aware of the consequences. For anyone who uploads to FR24 please read and understand the following;

You would all be familiar by now with the individual statistics page- under 'My Data Sharing' thence 'Show Statistics.' This page is being updated now and then and if you check the line adjacent to your coordinates there's an icon at the far end which appears like an eye. Click on it now and up pops another icon alongside it which looks like a pen (or crayon) as well as your coordinates of course. Clicking on the 'pen' will bring up a dialogue box showing your location on a map with a movable balloon. Hovering your mouse over the 'eye' brings up 'show/hide coordinates' where as hovering over the 'pen' doesn't tell you anything at all. However, all seemingly innocuous so far.

Now if you're like me and you're fond of accuracy just beware if you are tempted to move the location balloon even just a tad that you not only update your coordinates but you may well do what I did and accidentally create a new alias for your receiver, sending the old one off into the ether and voiding it. By the way you can't select a new alias for yourself, it's selected for you automatically seemingly by some random method only FR24 understand.

Thankfully after contacting support they are going to roll back my alias but if enough of us change our location balloon simply because it's a few houses or streets away and the inevitable happens these poor guys in support will be swamped with requests to fix it up.

If you want to keep your existing alias intact, don't fool with this dialogue box as there are consequences which although unintentional can become quite problematic. Since we're the only one who can see this information (apart from FR24), I don't think it's worthwhile playing with and quite frankly is probably something that's a completely unnecessary feature for existing uploaders.

Regards,
Gregg

How it works: inaccuracies

Dear FR24,
I think I have noted some inaccuracies in https://www.flightradar24.com/how-it-works:

§1 ADS-B: "The ADS-B transponder on aircraft transmits signal containing the location (and much more)"
should be "The ADS-B transponder on aircraft transmits signal containing the aircraft identification and optionally its location (and much more)"

§2 MLAT: "In some regions with coverage from several FR24-receivers we also calculate positions of non-ADS-B equipped aircraft with the help of ..."
should be "In some regions with coverage from several FR24-receivers we also calculate positions of ADS-B aircrafts, which do not transmit their position, with the help of..."

How to use RAW data and/or Decoded data via LAN?

Hello World! It's almost 48 hours since I began running FR24 Feed on my headless BeagleBone Black and today, I discovered the dump1080 web (:8080) and feeder/decoder (:8754). I am a newbie at ADS-B/MLAT stuff and still a newbie at RTL-SDR, though I am compiling code (from GitHub) in Linux.

Originally, I enabled RAW data (30002/30334) and Decoded data (30003), but I could not figure out how to use those data feeds on another computers via my LAN (includes Wi-Fi access point).

I bought two SDR USB dongles, one of which is now dedicated to my headless BeagleBone Black for FR24 Feed.

I guess, my question is, Can I use the RAW data (30002/30334) and/or Decoded data (30003) on another computer (Linux/Android/Windows) without using my 2nd SDR USB dongle?

According to the documention available online, I understand that I can't use RAW data and dump1080 web (:8080) at the same time.

I have been noticing that "30532" number in log entry "[mlat][i]Stats 30532/0" no longer increases. I have no clue what "[mlat][i]Stats 30532/0" means.

Should I be concerned? Or should I disabled MLAT?

Hello,

Why i don't see any planes with the VFR SQUAWK 7000? Are they filtered, because they are too much planes at the map?

Can we have a bit of humanity in the airline industry?

Hope this one isn't too far off topic. It does involve an individual, a family, an airline, an airport and a decision probably now very much regretted;

https://au.news.yahoo.com/sa/a/35876...-mix-up/#page1

I've always tried to maintain a smile on my dial and to extend that to putting a smile on the dial of those I encounter in life as is evidenced by some of my posts since life can belt you and others around the gills at times. How this guy could ever do so is beyond my comprehension. He would need a very strong disposition and family support around him. I'm sure there is now an airline employee asking whether they could have done things a little differently and an airline looking into their policies in cases such as these.

I've noticed for Manchester Airport for example that, Freebird, Cobalt and ASL France airlines are all missing from the dep/arr boards

There may be other airlines, and of course other airports that are missing data.

This may not only apply to planespotters but could so well apply to those of us who for whatever reason enjoy this great hobby called FlightRadar24;

That's possibly why at after 11.00PM here I'm still feeding FR24 and watching, waiting...

Hello,

Setting up a new feed with relatively few issues but I'm not seeing any aircraft.
Background info. This is a clean install using etcher with the FR24 image download per the instruction.
My USB receiver equipment (purchased on Amazon):
NooElec NESDR Mini USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B Receiver Set, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input

I'm getting an error message: "No supported RTLSDR devices found."

Hey,

simple question. Is it possible to integrate the FR24 into my website? Free? Premium?

I read about a iframe solution but also answers like "simple call is not supportet any longer". But did it mean that the complete integration is not supported or just the iframe solution?

How to Feed Data to Multiple Sites - A Brief Guide

$
0
0
It has become very common that users want to install multiple feeders to feed multiple sites like FlightRadar24, Flightaware, Planefinder, Adsbexchange, Radarbox24, etc etc.

Basically feeding to any site requires following software:
(1) An Operating System like Noobs, Raspbian, Ubuntu etc.
(2) A Decoder software like dump1090 MR, dump1090-mutability, dump1090-fa, ModeSDeco2 etc.
(3) An exclusive data feeder for each site like fr24feed (FlightRadar24), Piaware feeder (Flightaware), PFClient (Planefinder), rbfeeder (RadarBox24) etc. The data feeder of a Flightaware & Adsbexchange (which provides feedback of MLAT results) also have a built-in MLAT Client.

There are multiple ways and combinations to install these software as follows:

  1. Pi24 image from Flightradar24.com
    1. Burn microSD card with Pi24 image. This image contains: Raspbian Jessie Lite OS + dump1090 (MR) + fr24 data feeder.
    2. Install Planefinder, Flightaware and Radarbox24 feeders from respective sites.
    3. The above installation works OK, except that Flightaware MLAT results feed-back is not displayed on map. The built-in dump1090 (MR) does not have facility to keep MLAT feedback separate from the data received by DVB-T and combine it only on map display. This facility is available in dump1090-mutability and dump1090-fa. For this reason either dump1090-mutability or dump1090-fa should be installed.

  2. Piaware image from Flightaware.com
    1. Burn microSD card with Piaware SD card image. This image contains: Raspbian Jessie Lite OS + dump1090-fa + Piaware data feeder
    2. Install Flightradar24, Planefinder, Adsbexchange, and Radarbox24 feeders from respective sites.

  3. Raspbian Lite image from Raspberrypi.org
    1. Burn microSD card with Raspbian Jessie Lite image. This image contains only Operating system.
    2. Install either dump1090-mutability or dump1090-fa
    3. Install Flightradar24, Flightaware, Planefinder, Adsbexchange, and Radarbox24 feeders from respective sites.

FR24 FEEDER CONFIGURATION

  • If no external decoder (like dump1090 MR, dump1090-mutability, dump1090-fa, or ModeSDeco2) is installed and only integral dump1090 of Pi24 or the fr24feed package install is used, then select "Receiver: DVB-T". See screenshot below.

To see the map, use "Process Arguments: --net --net-http-port 8080".
The map will be displayed in Browser at http://<IP of Pi>:8080

To change gain of Receiver (DVB-T) from default 49.6, use "Process Arguments: --net --net-http-port 8080 --gain xx" , where xx is the gain value you want to set.

    Pi24 no ext dump - config.png

  • If an external decoder (like dump1090 MR, dump1090-mutability, dump1090-fa, or ModeSDeco2) is installed, then select "Receiver: AVR(TCP)" and "HOST/IP: 127.0.0.1:30002". See screenshot below.

Raspberry Pi + Resin.io = Feed setup in under an 20 minutes

$

About a year an half ago I wrote a post Raspberry Pi + Docker = Feed setup in under an hour.

I decided to go this route because:
  • Docker was quick to share and setup.
  • Docker had become available on RPI.
  • Allow very quick, repeatable installs.
  • Main goal was to allow me to install many RPI's in various locations.

It however had a few flaws:
  • It required some unix command line knowledge.
  • Images would have versions hard baked unless recreated.
  • Environment variables had to be hand written into docker-compose.yml file.
  • RPI's still required manual intervention (i.e. to change something, I needed physical access - which is difficult for RPI's I intended to install in other countries).

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across Resin.io. It seemed to resolve many of my issues.
I am very happy with the results and thought I would share my project with everyone else.

Resin.io has allowed me to:
  • Deploy first device in under 20 minutes.
  • Deploy subsequent devices in under 5 minutes.
  • Allow very quick, upgrades of software in around 2 minutes (on all devices).
  • Remote manage and control all devices (even if they are not inside my current network).

My New Project Idea: A Talking Flightradar24 Filter

$

My Idea (the story): Shortly after I married my wife and opted to live in her home, I have noticed that a variety of aircraft flies over and nearby. When I asked her brother (my brother-in-law), whom was working at NAIA ATC about the aircraft flying over and nearby, he told me that we're on the flightpaths of many flights from NAIA. My wife's sister (my sister-in-law) has been an airline travel agent for decades and is quickly able to identify commercial airliners just by looking at the aircraft's tail. -- Then in 2015, I discovered an agency, called Flightradar24 and then, purchased Flightradar24 Pro for my Android. -- Within a year later, I discovered that there is a "Filter" feature available, and new profounded idea was invented... I wanted to be alerted of any aircraft nearby my home...

However, back in July 2016, Flightradar24 Support told me (via E-Mail) "Unfortunately, it's not possible to select all aircraft, as it needs to be filterd either by aircraft type, registration or airline. So you'll need to create either a filter for each of the aircraft type that usually fly over your home, or for the airline that frequently fly in the area."

A couple of days ago, my SDR USB dongles arrived and one is now fully operational on my BeagleBone Black A5B using the latest FR24 Feeder intended for Raspberry Pi.

Today, while looking at the web output of dump1090, I figure that my original idea can become "true" since I don't see a similar feature with any available Flightradar24 application for Android and/or computer web browser.

Since my headless BeagleBone Black is running my SpeakJet Cape (hardware-based speech synthesizer), my upgraded idea is now to be told what airliner is flying by my home, automatically. I figure having a ADS-B "reception zone" of 2 kilometers is good enough for my project. That will allow me to lay on my bed with my eyes closed and hearing my BeagleBone Black announce which airliner, if know, if flying nearby. This would eliminate the need to use "AR view" after running outside and upstairs to my 3rd floor. My secondary project will be to automatically turn on my radio scanner to NAIA Approach/Departure channel for me to hear pilot-ATC communications.

Presently, I don't know how to do this project, nor which app to focus on, whether it is dump1090 or fr24feed. Though I am already a veteran programmer, I would think this would be a easy project, however, I am still a newbie to ADS-B technology.

Hopefully my project idea does not cause any legal issue as my intention to is hear "mostly useless info" for personal reasons.

Does anyone here know of any current software applications to do the "job" so I won't have to re-invent the wheel? Otherwise, I plan to start a new GitHub project.

Thanks in Advance!

Oh why can't these developers leave things well alone?

Now on the FR24 webpage - I have a Gold subscription - it's impossible to remove the left column containing the social rubbish which i have absolutely NO interest in, unless I select "Multi-select" as the map view! What stupidity is this?

PLEASE put it back the way it was.
