Airport name is the same as an airport near by therefore incorrect

$

Hello

Since I cannot post links, hopefully you can easily find the issue. On the map are two airports that are about 10 miles from each other. The first is "Kansas City International Airport) identified by KMCI. The second one is "Charles B Wheeler Downtown Airport) Identified by KMKC. The issue is that when you click on the map icon marker for either of those airports, they both have the same name of Kansas City International Airport. This is also concurrent when you go to each airports page on the website as they both are listed as Kansas City International Airport.

Hopefully this can get fixed and that is all I wanted to share! Thanks and happy flying.

Edit: Added a screenshot from the map of each airport selected and the name remaining same.

3d search (space & time) for crossing/converging flights

Grrr, can't post links

Is there a way a seeing the flights that cross within a certain area at a certain time? (kind of like the Strava flyby feature (labs .strava com/flyby/))

I was on this flight (www .flightradar24 .com/data/flights/fr4953/#dcf250c) in seat 15F when a flash of oraange going under the right wing travelling in the opposite direction caught my eye at around 10:34 (UTC). It was instantaneous and only out the corner of my eye so probably seemed closer than it was (it might not even have been orange). My aircraft took no avoiding action so it must have been normal separation but I'm curious to know / see what flight it was. Is there anywehre of seeing the flights in an area at a certain time to find out what flight it was?

Thanks.

amateur radio hf transmissions and locking up gps, on flight radar24 receiver

If your gps gets locked up and starts blinking red a lot it is because your have somehow interfered with the gps using your amateur hf transceiver. I found how to fix this problem, disconnect the gps antenna, power down your receiver reconnect your gps antenna and power up your receiver. It took me a while to figure out what was causing it. it doesn't bother the receiver no matter how much power you are running. Try to put some isolation between the gps antenna and your hf antenna. if I discover more troubles due to amateur radio I will post.

New Linux Installation - can start feed but not as service

I've made a new installation under Linux, and I can successfully feed data using the command sudo fr24feed start. (The data sharing page confirms feeding is working.) But I cannot start the feeder as a SERVICE. I get a message "Unit fr24feed.service not found".

I've followed the instructions in Appendix A 11 of the fr24feed manual, and eveything is fine up to this point. I expect this is a simple Linux problem rather than anything to do with the fr24 software. Is there something (not in the manual) that one has to do to register a program as a service?

Revised Web Page Layout

I just noticed that the revised web page layout doesn't show the UTC time on a 17 inch monitor in Firefox 54.0 (32 bit). And the top menu bar is now found by expanding the app style horizontal bars on the left-hand side but this list doesn't include the UTC time..

It depends on the window size. The same occurs on Chrome when the size is reduced but is OK on a 17 inch monitor, 3rd screenshot.

The UTC time appears to be grouped with the top menu items, except for account type which always remains visible, in my example "Business".

When you run FR24 feed under Windows, you get a neat little tray icon that shows that the connection is live. Is there anything similar for Linux, i.e. a way of checking the connection without having to open up a terminal and check the fr24feed service status?

Norwegian Air Shuttle - Missing tracked flights?

Hey guys,

I would like to first let you know I appreciate the work you do and I hope one day I will join you as a developer, since I am a developer myself.

I come to you with a strange thing I realised recently. I have 2 upcoming Norwegian Air Shuttle flights, and as I always do, I track them a couple of days before the flight to see more info about the planes used, the paths used, etc.

However, none of the 2 flights are tracked by FR24 and it seems very uncommon since the planes are new (with up to date transponders) and a lot of other Norwegian flights are tracked.

Flights I am talking about: DY3320 (CPH - RIX), DY3540 (CPH - AMS). Other competitor websites show tracking info about them, but not FR24. Why would that be?

Thanks a lot for reading and I'm looking forward for a reply.

Question from a newb about switching USB dongle

I just started feeding a few days ago, but I'm already looking at getting better performance.
I used a generic USB dongle with the supplied antenna, which I cut down to 52mm (67mm total) and used a metal can about 70mm high as a ground plane and my range and received aircrafts went up a bit, but we're talking from 25 to maybe 40nm here lol. I just bought the FA antenna and some lmr400 to get the antenna outside and higher.
Now, we have a large Verizon cell tower about 1/2 mile from here and I was thinking of getting the FA prostick plus with the built in filter to replace my other one.
Will it be as simple as switching the dongles or will I have to recode something? I just installed the fr24 package on a micro SD and installed it in a Raspberry Pi 3, nothing else really. I also have the basic dump1090 that's included in the fr24 package visible on port 8080, any way to add distance rings on that?
Thanks from a newbie :)

ist of companies that stopped flying over Ukraine pre-MH-17

Dear All,

For one of the projects I am involved in I need to collect data on what airlines stopped flying over Ukraine prior to the MH17 tragedy. Does anyone have an idea where such list can be acquired or can recommend some websites that may have this kind of information? Through google search I mostly find newspaper articles that say something like "British Airways stopped flying over Ukraine months before". But I need exact days.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,I recently set up a fa flightfeeder and it's working fairly well.I would like to feed FR24 with it as well, but after a week of trawling through forums i can't seem to be able to find a tutorial on how to do this.I could set up a pi on a separate antenna but I would much rather just use the flightfeeder.Fa has no problem with me feeding other sites. If anyone can help walk me through this that would be awesome, thanks.

Raspberry pi feeding software automatic exit

My radar is T-ZPPP13,Run on the raspberry.ver is 1.0.18-9.
In recent weeks, the software exits automatically after running several hours:

I looked at the log file, but I couldn't find any error messages, and I tried to run on a new RaspberryPi-3, that still doesn't solve the problem.

Log files when software exits automatically:

Displaying realtime tracking map/data/status on a Raspberry Pi screen

Hi

As cute as we've got the Pi fr24feed tracker looking in the lounge, it would be kind-of nice to know what she's seeing without having to fire up mobile and looking at the dump1090 webpage.

I'm thinking it might be fun to connect some sort of very basic, budget screen to the Pi and get it displaying realtime map/data? Even a basic 84x48 dot matrix LCD from eBay for a few pounds updating every couple of seconds could work, simply plotting the positions of planes seen using lat/long as X/Y position mapped to a basic bitmap and using the location of the receiver as the centre of the screen.

Has anyone already done this? Does anyone have any suggestions, ideas, thoughts?

I guess the important aspect for me is cost; it's easy to do this stuff (albeit anxiety provoking 'cos we're not rich) spending a fortune, but I find it far more fun doing this all on a daft cheap budget and DIYing it as much as possible, and also I'm unemployed at the moment too. Also, our fr24feed is running on just an old B+ and I don't want to do anything that'll create much load on the Pi. So a max budget of about £10 / $12. And yes, I'm fine with a soldering iron (or "smouldering iron" as my partner insists on calling it) and electronics and have some spare bits and bobs, components, leads and things (I used to run a set of 4 x 8x8 LED matrix displays on it but it was a bit much, a bit bright, and too attention grabbing really!)

Warm Regards from a curiously hot and sunny Derby, UK
Julie

PS And yes, of course I'll post pictures and code and things if I get anything running. :)

Adding FR24 to existing setup?

Hi Guys,

I currently have a FlightAware Pro Plus which feeds radar360 and FlightAware but I want to also feed FR24 from it. Right now I am feeding FR24 from a seperate RPi with a small antenna but my other RPi is connected to a much bigger antenna on the roof. Is it simply a matter of SSHing into my main RPi and issuing this command sudo bash -c "$(wget -O - http://repo.feed.flightradar24.com/install_fr24_rpi.sh)" Will I get the option to then activate it onto my existing FR24 account?

Additional RPi setup on existing FR24 account

Hi There,

I already feed FR24 with a Raspberry Pi and Today I have installed FR24 onto an additional Raspberry Pi and during setup entered the email address that is on my FR24 accoutn and also entered my Sharing key. Went through setup and all looks good but I was expecting to have the option in my account to add this new station to my account but I dont....

Any ideas please?

Unknown hex codes thread?

Well I posted this in another thread and it got instantly deleted. WTF?

Attempt 2 :

I often see unidentified planes when scrolling around the map which I'm sure the sleuths could fairly easily identify, match details up to and post to the 'new additions to the db' thread. Of course, the immediate response to that would be "well why don't you ID them and post them yourself?", which would be a fair point, but I'm sure I'm not alone in only being interested in certain aircraft types and frankly can't be bothered wasting my valuable time trying to find the correct details so that 40612 doesn't jump on me for forgetting to add the dot at the top of my 'i'. :p

Do the mods think there would be merit adding an "unidentified hex codes" thread in the database sub-forum for people to post details of the code seen, location, time, date, height, any callsign etc so that the sleuths can ID them and subsequently post them to the 'new additions' thread with full details?
